More Than Coffee

wild-tundra began as a simple question: how can we help South Africans discover the extraordinary coffee being roasted in their own neighbourhoods? What started as weekend market visits became a mission to connect people with the artisans transforming beans into something remarkable.

Our Beginning

In 2019, our founders spent months travelling across South Africa, visiting roasteries tucked away in industrial estates and cafes hidden on quiet streets. They discovered a thriving underground coffee scene — passionate roasters producing world-class beans with minimal recognition beyond their immediate communities.

wild-tundra emerged from a desire to change that. We became the bridge between these talented artisans and coffee lovers seeking something beyond supermarket shelves.

Local First

We prioritise South African roasters who source responsibly and roast thoughtfully. Every partnership supports local jobs and expertise.

Quality Without Pretence

Great coffee should be approachable. We avoid unnecessary jargon and focus on helping you find what tastes good to you.

Sustainable Growth

We encourage practices that protect both farming communities and the environment, from fair pricing to recyclable packaging.

What Drives Us

Every week, our team visits roasteries, attends cuppings, and speaks with farmers. We believe that understanding the full journey — from seed to cup — makes each sip more meaningful. When you know that the beans in your grinder were carefully dried on raised beds in Malawi before being roasted three days ago in Johannesburg, coffee becomes a story rather than just a beverage.

Professional coffee equipment in a modern roastery setting

Our consultancy work allows us to share this knowledge more broadly. We have helped more than sixty cafes refine their offerings, train their staff, and build relationships with suppliers who match their values. Watching a new barista successfully dial in their first espresso or seeing a cafe owner receive praise for their pour-over programme reminds us why this work matters.

The Team

We are a small team of eight, each bringing different expertise. Some of us have backgrounds in hospitality, others in agriculture or business development. What unites us is a genuine enthusiasm for South African coffee and a commitment to making it accessible to everyone — whether that means delivering beans to your door or helping you launch your own cafe.

Our roaster partners number over forty, spread across seven provinces. They range from one-person operations roasting in converted garages to larger facilities producing hundreds of kilograms weekly. What they share is dedication to their craft and openness to collaboration.

Interested in joining our network of roasters or cafes? We are always looking for new partners who share our values.

"Partnering with wild-tundra gave our small roastery access to customers we never could have reached on our own. They understand what independent roasters need."
